Dr. Joanne Bak’s professional training makes her uniquely qualified to lead Animal Specialty Group’s rehabilitation and alternative medicine department.

Having earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine with honors in 1996, she then completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery here at Animal Specialty Group. While practicing general medicine and surgery over the last ten years, she began focusing on feline and canine geriatric medicine, physical rehabilitation and acupuncture.

To enhance her ability to provide the best options for care, she studied acupuncture with IVAS, the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and canine rehabilitation therapy with the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, along with additional geriatric study in China through the Chi Institute. Dr. Bak is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. Her other areas of interest include traditional Chinese medicine and food therapy. She is an active member of the CVMA, American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture, American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society.
